Artist's Comments

Just trying to get a sense of the relative sizes of the characters.

GIMP 'inks' over pencil sketch. You can see at the top where I drew Cyclops' head off the top of the paper.

Great work...but what is Wolverine wearing?
:iconlaemeur:
It's the brown and tan uniform, I've just blacked most of the brown part. In your mind, make the highlights brown.

The way you handle the musculature of your characters really lends to the awesomeness of this drawing for me. Makes me want to take some life classes.

I forgot how ridiculous wolverine's sleeveless costume was until seeing it in b&w.

I never used GIMP. Did you use a special brush or configuration to ink this pieces? Looks like it was inked by hand!

Thanks. I use the pencil tool in GIMP, which lets me do single-pixel stuff in high-detail areas, like the faces. I set tablet pressure to vary the tool width, but only set the scale range between 1 and 2 or 1 and 3 for most of the drawing. Because the pencil tool is not anti-aliased, this doesn't actually produce a smooth variable-width line; rather it lets me toggle between 2 or 3 "nib" sizes with hand pressure.

Then, of course, when I want to just throw a lot of black around, I scale the tool up to 10 and scribble a lot.
