I wanted to do a little self-portrait for a personal website design that I've now scrapped, but I was pleased with how this came out so I'm posting it/using it here on dA.
I get absolutely sucked into doing low-res little images like this. It actually started as a small (3-inch high maybe) ink and wash drawing, which I scanned and scaled way down, then turned the brightness way up on and made ghostly. I then loaded that into GrafX2 (which now supports layers) and just did a very low-res digital ink over the top of it. I've never worked like that before on a low-res image; I've always just started from scratch in the paint program. I liked the greys that were still showing through from the original drawing, but when I dropped this to the old "web safe" palette, all those greys became one grey -- which I rather liked.
